Antique Desk
This piece of furniture was retrieved from our local D.I. for a reasonable price.
It was originally a very dull blue, and was chipping away everywhere.
All though there was a lot of chipped paint, we really thought that it added some antique character to this desk, so we decided to leave a lot of it.
After sanding down the whole piece of furniture, we went over the entire desk with a very light coat of "ultra white" paint using foam paint brushes so we could cover it well, without causing more damage.
Since this piece of furniture was very old, and the paint was chipping, we had to be very careful with our brush strokes and make sure that we didn't cause anymore paint to flake off.
After a few coats of white paint, we took some sand paper (any kind that you can buy at your local hardware store) and sanded the entire desk, very lightly.

We wanted the white to be more subtle, therefore, we sanded most of the white off, allowing it to gain that antique feel.
Since we loved the look of the chipped paint so much, we decided that in some places we would sand down far enough to bring out the original wood color, achieving a more distressed look.
This piece had so much wear-and-tear over the years, that even after sanding it down, it felt like the paint still wanted to chip off.
So, we topped off the desk by covering it with a clear coat to stop the paint from chipping any further.

This desk was painted to be placed in the middle of this bedroom for young sisters.
